Method

Cooking time: 5 mins

This simple but sophisticated gin cocktail recipe was created for Lidl by spirits specialist Tristan Stephenson: 'Hortus Summer Gin calls upon the rich fruity characteristics of rosehip and hibiscus and freshens them with orange, lemon and bergamot peels (which you might be familiar with as it's used to make Earl Grey tea). This makes Hortus Summer Gin a super base for a gin and tonic or a great starting point for long, citrus driven cocktails.'

  1. Begin by making the sugar syrup. Gently heat 2 parts of sugar to 1 part water in a pan until it dissolves to form a smooth syrup. Measure out 10ml and set aside the rest to use in other cocktails.
  2. Fill a cocktail shaker with ice and add the gin, cranberry, lemon juice, egg white and sugar syrup.
  3. Shake well, then strain into a glass filed with more ice. Top up with soda water and garnish with a slice of lemon.
