Panettone custard toasties
Whether you’re looking for a way to use up leftover panettone or just fancy a festive dessert, this clever spin on panettone French toast is guaranteed to hit the sweet spot. The slices are cooking like French toast, then sandwiched together with sticky marmalade and creamy custard for a sweet taste on a toastie. Enjoy for pudding or as a decadent brunch.
- Whisk the eggs, milk and cinnamon together in a wide shallow dish, then add 2 of the panettone slices to the mixture to soak.
- Meanwhile, place a frying pan over a medium heat and add the oil. Fry the soaked panettone slices in the pan for 1-2 minutes on each side, soaking another 2 slices of panettone in the egg mixture as you go.
- Repeat the process with the remaining panettone slices, keeping the cooked pieces warm. Place 2 slices of panettone on each plate and smother in the marmalade and custard, sandwiching the slices together. Top with the orange slices, ice cream and an extra dusting of cinnamon, serving immediately.
