Welcome to our new series, Fake-cations, where we will take you on a tour of the world’s cuisines without you ever having to leave your kitchen. This week, we are heading to…Eastern Europe. Pierogies are the ultimate Eastern European comfort food. Little dough parcels of goodness, there’s no wrong way to eat a pierogi, but our personal favourite way is with this super-easy sour cream sauce.
1. Heat the butter in a large pan over medium heat. 2. Lower the heat and add the chopped garlic until it softens and turns a very light golden colour. Be careful not to let it overcook. 3. Add the flour and continue stirring until mixed smoothly with the butter and garlic. Keep cooking while stirring until the flour turns golden yellow.4. Gradually begin stirring in the stock, blending it with the flour mixture until the sauce is smooth, creamy and thickened. 5. Add the salt and pepper, taste and adjust the seasoning if necessary. 6. Whisk in the sour cream and blend until smooth. 7. Add the fresh chives just before serving.
