Preparation

This epic sharing board is a great way to impress your guests at Halloween. We’ve used a variety of goodies, but you could swap in cheeses or antipasti of your choice (see ‘top tip’). Add your favourite dips on the side and enjoy with all the family.

  1. First, prepare the butternut squash or pumpkin, then use a vegetable peeler to shave thin strips into a bowl. Add the vinegar and sugar, and season well, before using clean hands to toss together. Set aside to lightly pickle while you prepare the board.
  2. Using a large circular board (approx. 40cm diameter), begin to assemble the rest of your ingredients. Drain and roughly chop the olives, then use them to form the eyes, nose and mouth of your ‘pumpkin’. Add the chilli at the top for the ‘stalk’.
  3. Lay out the remaining ingredients as you wish, roughly tearing the cheddar slices, and finish with the quick-pickled pumpkin.
  4. TOP TIP: You can add other ‘orange’ ingredients, such as sweet chilli crackers, satsumas, carrots and houmous, to add more flavour and texture.
