Preparation

    This homemade BBQ sauce recipe makes a delicious dip or marinade for a barbecue. To add extra intense flavour cook the onion over the coals of the barbecue until dark and soft before adding to the pan.

  1. Gently fry the onion in the oil until just beginning to colour, then add the garlic, ginger and paprika and continue to cook for a further 3 minutes.
  2. Reduce the heat, and all the remaining ingredients and stir well. Bring to a simmer, then cook for around 20 minutes until thickened.
  3. Remove the sauce from the heat and allow to cool slightly, then transfer to a blender and blitz until smooth. Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to two weeks.
