We’re a little suspicious of any house with leftover panettone, but if you do happen to find yourself with a few spare slices, make this delicious toasted sandwich – it’s perfect as a pud or a particularly indulgent snack.

Preparation
In a shallow bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs and nutmeg for warmth. Cut each slice of panettone lengthways into two pieces and spread one side with some of the chocolate spread for richness. Sandwich with the other piece of panettone.
Heat the butter in a large frying pan until just sizzling. Dip the sandwiches in the egg mixture, turning quickly to ensure they don’t get too wet, and then fry the sandwiches for 3-4 minutes each side, until golden brown. If your pan isn’t big enough, you might need to do this in stages.
To serve, slice the sandwiches in half and top with creamy ice cream.
